Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2012 | Vallamkali

Nehru Trophy Boat Race is a world famous boat race which is held in the Punnamada Lake situated in the Alappuzha, Kerala, India. ‘ Vallamkali ‘ or ‘Vallam Kali’ is the Malayalam word for Boat Race. The trophy was awarded first by none other than the first Indian Prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1952 during his visit in the Kerala. It is the competition of Chundan Vallams or ‘Chundan’ boats.

It is the 60^th Nehru Trophy Boat Race which was held on 11^th august 2012. The winner of this special event is “Sree Ganeshan”. The captain of this boat is G.G Jacob. They finished the race in 4:43:02 minutes. There were many VIPs in the spectators. It includes Lok Sabha Speaker Meera Kumar, Union Minister Vayalar Ravi, Chief Minister of Kerala Sri Umman Chandi, Union Minister K.C Venugopal and many others.
