How to Watch Thrissur Pooram 2013 Live


Thrisssur Pooram is one of the biggest festivals in Kerala. Thrisssur Pooram
 Is celebrated every year in Medam (april) month in the Thrissur town. The  Pooram continues for 36 hours. It attracts a lot of people from different places in India as well as other nations. Thrisssur Pooram
 Is hosted by two temples – Paramekkavu and Thiruvampadi. Famous ‘Thekkinkadu maidhanam’ is the spot where pooram is held.



 History behind Thrisssur Pooram
It is believed that every year the gods in the two temples ‘ Paramekkavu and Thiruvampadi’ meets together for one day. This day is celebrated by the believers as a holy festival. The Pooram starts early in the morning at the time of Kanimangalam sasthavu ezhunnellipu. Thrissur pooram was started in 1798 by Sakthan Thampuran or Raja Rama Varma. He was the ruler of Cochin. This was a major breakthrough in the culture of Kerala. Common man got access to these festivals who were denied passage to temples at that time.


 Attractions of Thrissur pooram
Elephants are the major attractions of Thrissur pooram. Around 50 elephants will be present during the time of festival. There is an exhibition of elephants just two days before Thrissur pooram. It is known as ‘Aana Chamaya Pradharshanam’.
Then there is the musical fiesta. ‘Ilanjithara melam’ is famous for its use of drums, pipe,  trumpets and cymbal.
‘Kudamattam’ is another event. The two temples exchange colorful and beautifully crafted umbrellas which is spectacular to the eyes.
