Thrisssur Pooram is one of the biggest festivals in Kerala. Thrisssur Pooram
 Is celebrated every year in Medam (april) month in the Thrissur town. The  Pooram continues for 36 hours. It attracts a lot of people from different places in India as well as other nations. Thrisssur Pooram
 Is hosted by two temples – Paramekkavu and Thiruvampadi. Famous ‘Thekkinkadu maidhanam’ is the spot where pooram is held.

 History behind Thrisssur Pooram
It is believed that every year the gods in the two temples ‘ Paramekkavu and Thiruvampadi’ meets together for one day. This day is celebrated by the believers as a holy festival. The Pooram starts early in the morning at the time of Kanimangalam sasthavu ezhunnellipu. Thrissur pooram was started in 1798 by Sakthan Thampuran or Raja Rama Varma. He was the ruler of Cochin. This was a major breakthrough in the culture of Kerala. Common man got access to these festivals who were denied passage to temples at that time.

 Attractions of Thrissur pooram
Elephants are the major attractions of Thrissur pooram. Around 50 elephants will be present during the time of festival. There is an exhibition of elephants just two days before Thrissur pooram. It is known as ‘Aana Chamaya Pradharshanam’.
Then there is the musical fiesta. ‘Ilanjithara melam’ is famous for its use of drums, pipe,  trumpets and cymbal.
‘Kudamattam’ is another event. The two temples exchange colorful and beautifully crafted umbrellas which is spectacular to the eyes.

The ticket sale for the One Day International cricket match between India and England to be held on 15th January 2013 started today. Tickets are available in the selected branches of Federal Bank. Ticket sale via Federal Bank will be only available upto 11th January 2013. Online Sale is through the official site of Federal Bank . Indian Cricket Bowler S Srisanth inaugurated the event. Kaloor International Stadium (Nehru Stadium) will host the ODI match between India and England.

Vacancies in Group D, North Central Railway 2013

There are 1965 vacancies in North Central Railway in the Group D segment. You have to apply before September 30, 2012. Applicants from Lakshadweep have an extension on this date. They need to apply before October 15, 2012. The minimum educational qualification for applying is education up to 10^th standard or ITI.

The age requirement is Minimum – 18years and Maximum 33 years. There will be different types of selection procedures. You have to pass in the Written examination, then physical fitness test, Certificate verifications and medical checkup. JAM 2013 Exam Dates and Courses

Joint Admission Test for MSC in IIT, Integrated MSC- Phd , Integrated Phd in Bangalore Indian Institute of Science and different other post-BSC Programs will commence in February 10, 2013. JAM exam centres in Kerala include Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode. Other JAM exam centers are Mangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. You have to apply before October 30, 2012. The responsibility of JAM exams 2013 is on Delhi IIT this time.

Visit the home page of GATE for applying online for JAM 2013. To know more read the previous post or visit this- Apply Online JAM 2013JAM Exams include 3 papers with an exam time of 3 hours each. The subjects include Biological Science, Computer Applications, Chemistry, Geophysics and Mathematical Statitics. Out of these papers, three papers consists of objective type questions only. They are Biological Science, Biotechnology and Computer applications. There will be negative mark for errors in Objective type questions.

The online application facility for JAM 2013 will be available from September 20^th to October 23^rd. The website you have to visit for applying online is http://gate.iitd.ac.in/jam . You have to take the printout of the application from this website and then mail it to Delhi along with photo and draft. The exam fee for online applications is less than that of the offline applications. Offline Application for JAM 2013

The Offline Application forms for JAM 2013 will be available from September 20 to October 20 in the Canara Bank branches given below – Trivandrum, Kochi Mattancheri, Ernakulam Nettipadam, Coimbatore Oppankara, Mangalore, Bangalore Town Hall, Chennai, Mumbai Fort and Delhi Janpath. You can buy the form and information brochure at rupees 1200. It will be available at a reduced price of Rupees 600 for those who have reservation.
